Description

This 5 day course (including the exam date) will give farmers, growers and advisors an increased understanding of soils function. The Quality of Soils course focuses on soil life – studying the physical, biological and chemical processes within a soil that contribute to a healthy soil. It will demonstrate how soils function as an ecosystem – leading to an expansive understanding of how best to produce food, fibre and biofuels from the soil. It will demonstrate the interrelationships between the various aspects of soil functions and the dynamics of this subtly changing ecosystem which can be influenced both positively and negatively, by farming practices. The course aims to help improve the knowledge and skills necessary to manage soils for the benefit of farms as well as long-term sustainability of natural resources.
